GHRP-2: Research Profile

A synthetic growth-hormone-releasing hexapeptide investigated as a ghrelin-receptor agonist in preclinical growth-hormone-axis research.

What GHRP-2 is

GHRP-2 (Growth Hormone-Releasing Peptide 2, also called pralmorelin) is a synthetic hexapeptide developed as a ghrelin-receptor (GHSR-1a) agonist. It was one of the earlier synthetic growth-hormone secretagogues to be studied in growth-hormone-axis research.

Molecular information

  • Sequence: D-Ala-D-2-Nal-Ala-Trp-D-Phe-Lys-NH₂ (contains non-natural residues)
  • Number of residues: 6
  • Approximate monoisotopic mass: ~817 Da (as the free acid)
  • Physical form: Typically supplied as a white lyophilised powder

Areas of published research

Preclinical and clinical research has examined GHRP-2's effect on GH secretion, appetite signalling and related endocrinological endpoints. Its ghrelin-receptor agonism is well characterised. Non-natural amino acids (D-Nal, D-Phe) in the sequence should be considered when interpreting mass-spectrometry results, since a synthesis error at these positions may not be obvious from mass alone.

Analytical considerations

Standard research-peptide analytical checks apply: identity confirmation by mass spectrometry (see LC-MS peptide testing explained), purity assessment by reversed-phase HPLC at 214 nm (see what is HPLC peptide testing), and batch-specific documentation (see how to read a peptide COA). Refer to the Peptovia Research Certificate of Analysis page for live examples of the analytical format used for batches supplied.
